From the workshop yurt looking toward the residential yurt where Denise and Bill live. The round structure in the foreground is known as the "kiva". It's a place where people can go on windy days and still be in the sun, and/or gather around a central fire and do drumming.

The "kiva" was built using a long woven Tyvek-like tube, filled with concrete, then wrapped round and round, and cut where the entrance is. Bill is gradually marking astronomical points, such as the locations of solstice sun rise and sun set from the center. Notice the solar panels in the background. There's no electricity here. The solar panels charge a bank of batteries which run a system of lights at night -- in both the kitchen building and the casitas.
