Advent Day 18: December 19th
The Power Hidden in the Ordinary

What if we all decided to embrace peace, letting it fill our lives and inform our decisions? What if we stopped focussing on what we didn't get, or what someone else got? What if we stopped asking someone else to make us happy?

The news is filled with with fads, politics, megastars. What if we began to see through this curtain? Deep within the ground of our being is a love that will make us well.

It waits for our assent: it wants to bring us alive. What will it take for us to look past outward appearances and begin to question and search for something true?

A month ago I stood by the wall in a hotel room, looking at the yellowed, framed front page of an Atlanta newspaper. The lead story and photo were about the premiere of and pictured there were the great stars of the motion picture. I realized they are all dead now. Yet that night they rode on top of the world and perhaps felt invincible.

What if we embraced power the power within instead of embracing passing events? Or stopped imposing our own terms and desires on the world and really saw this small planet in its halo of blue? Saw what's possible? Knew what beckons us?

We have this day and the love it presents. Hidden within the ordinary is a great power. We know it, and yet we don't. But what if we did?
